Stirling is no longer with us but he deserves his place on this page as he will always remain a beloved member of the Stony Pasture herd. He was the first born cria (baby) at our land near Chollerford. His mother Moss was pregnant with him for 368 days (the longest pregnancy for our herd). Within a few minutes of his birth, it was apparent something was wrong. He saw the vets and they recommended putting him to sleep but Stirling, me and Moss had very different ideas. He had a plasma transfusion at 48 hours old and was bottle/syringe fed every 2 hours. He learned to feed for himself and began to thrive, grow and play with the other cria (Floe and Freddie). Because he needed so much input he became very friendly and love nibbling me or sunbathing with me. When he reached 3 months old his disabilities began to get the better of him and a month later we were told a major operation was his only hope. We fundraised and due to the kindness of friends, family and strangers we managed to book his operation. No one thought he would make it through but he did, only to die very suddenly the next day. It broke my heart just as much as Moss. It was such a special relationship and he will soon become immortalised in a range of alpaca sterling silver jewellery as a tribute to all the joy that he brought to so many people.
